Maihar Devi Darshan
Maihar is known for the Maa Sharda Devi temple (around of 502 A.D.), situated at the top of Trikut hill which is around 5 km from the Maihar railway station. There are 1,063 steps to reach the top of the hill. Along with stairs, there is a ropeway for convenience of the pilgrims developed by government authorities.
Maihar is a city associated with the Goddess Shakti, also known as Maa Sharda Devi. On Trikut Hills, even 1063 steps to the hilltop to visit sculpture of Maa Sharda Devi and Lord Narsingh do not stop pilgrims to consider the endurance and take the climb. Another mode of reaching the temple is ropeway. Developed in 2009, it facilitates the pilgrims short with vacation or restricted by physical ailments.
The name Maihar is created from the mixture of 2 words 'Mai'(Mother) + 'Har'(Necklace). In line with the Hindu Mythology it's aforementioned that once lord Shiva was roaming while carrying the body of mother divinity Sati, the necklace (har) of divinity Sati(Mai) fell down in Maihar, therefore people started calling its name Maihar. It is also considered as one of the 51 Shakti Peeth of goddess Parvati.
The temple is open from 5.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and from 1.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. The Maihar Devi Temple Darshan Timings might change during festivals, occasional and special days.
Devotees from around the world visit the temple especially during Ram Navami and Navaratri.

Maa Sharda Temple is a very famous tourist spot as there is a huge footfall of devotees, locals and foreigners who visit it quite frequently to offer their prayers specially during navratri. The cable car, transports pilgrims to the top of the hill, transcending the 1200 steep step climb.
Ropeway Service is available from 6.30 AM TO 7.30 PM. Depending on sunlight and weather conditions and sandhya aarti at the temple the timings may be slightly adjusted on a day-to-day basis.

Nearest airport to reach Maihar is Jabalpur, Khajuraho and Allahabad. From these airports you can easily reach to Maihar by train, bus or taxi. Jabalpur to Maihar distance aprox. 150 KM. Khajuraho to Maihar distance aprox. 130 KM. Allahabad to Maihar distance aprox. 200 KM.
Normally all trains do not have stop at Maihar station but during Navratri festivals most of the trains stop at Maihar. Nearest railway station junction for all trains stoppage - Satna Station distance from Maihar Station aprox 36 KM. Katni Station distance from Maihar Station aprox 55 KM. Jabalpur Station distance from Maihar Station aprox 150 KM.
Maihar city is well connected by road with National highway 30. Highway connecting Varanasi to Kanyakumari. You can easily get regular buses to Maihar city from nearest major cities. Distance from Varanasi to Maihar is approx 300 KM.
